Japanese Licensed Acupuncturist — Orthopaedic & Musculoskeletal Focus

Ultrasound-guided needling · Musculoskeletal & sports · Orthopaedic · Electro-acupuncture · Allergy & immune

Soichiro Funo is a Japanese licensed acupuncturist with clinical experience in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal settings — an unusual path that gives him the rare ability to think in both Western orthopedic and traditional acupuncture frameworks simultaneously.

Patients often come to Soichiro when pain persists despite physiotherapy, exercise, rest, or standard medical explanations. He works in close collaboration with physiotherapist Hide Kuwabara, offering a complementary clinical pathway. His approach combines Japanese acupuncture, musculoskeletal anatomy, ultrasound-guided precision, and functional movement assessment.

Ultrasound is used to visualize relevant anatomical structures in real time, allowing more precise and safer needle placement — not as a diagnostic substitute. For patients told their results are "normal" while symptoms remain, Soichiro offers a clinical framework and a precise plan.

Common questions.

Is acupuncture painful?

Japanese acupuncture uses very fine needles and a gentle technique. Most patients find it essentially painless. Ultrasound guidance allows for precise, safer placement in complex areas.

How is this different from dry needling at a physio?

Soichiro is a Japanese licensed acupuncturist with hospital-based clinical experience. Japanese technique uses significantly finer needles, with attention to both musculoskeletal and systemic patterns — a different framework than physiotherapy-based dry needling.

Will insurance cover acupuncture?

Soichiro is an independent practitioner without insurance contracts. You receive an invoice that you can submit directly to your insurer. Coverage depends on your supplementary policy — please check in advance.

My results came back "normal" but I still have symptoms — can you help?

Yes — this is one of Soichiro's focus areas. Many patients come to him after standard diagnostics found nothing definitive while symptoms persisted. He offers a clinical framework and a precise plan from the first session.
