Sports Physiotherapy in Amsterdam
Sports physiotherapy in Amsterdam Zuid for runners, padel and tennis players, footballers and gym athletes. Alter Physio & Acupuncture treats the injury and the cause behind it — so you recover and come back stronger. Available in English, Dutch and Japanese.
Who this is for
Recreational and competitive athletes, and anyone whose complaint is tied to being active — runners, padel and tennis players, footballers, cyclists, CrossFit and gym athletes, and people coming back to sport after a break. You do not need to compete to be treated as an athlete here; what matters is that the demand you put on your body is part of the problem and part of the goal.
Most people come at one of four moments: a new injury that has just happened, symptoms that have not settled after a few weeks, the same problem returning season after season, or the point where training can restart and the question is how fast to load.
Injury rehabilitation
From acute strains to stubborn overuse complaints, we assess the whole movement chain and build a staged recovery plan. Common areas include knee, foot and ankle, hamstring and shoulder. See all sports injuries we treat.
Injuries we see most
Alongside knee and foot and ankle complaints, the most common presentations are Achilles tendon pain in runners, hamstring strains in sprinting and field sports, hip and groin pain in footballers and skaters, and shoulder pain in overhead and gym athletes.
What happens in a first appointment
The session starts with your history — what happened, what you have already tried, what you are training for. Then we assess how you actually move: the painful area, the joints above and below it, and the way load travels through the chain when you run, change direction, squat or push.
Treatment begins the same day, together with a small number of exercises you can realistically keep up between sessions. We re-test as we go, so the plan changes when the findings change rather than following a fixed protocol.
Returning to sport
Return to sport is decided by what you can do, not by how many weeks have passed. Loading is rebuilt in stages — tolerance first, then strength and control, then speed, change of direction and the specific demands of your sport — with objective checks along the way. Return-to-sport testing describes what those checks look like after a serious knee injury.
Where the same injury keeps coming back, the useful question is usually not which tissue hurts but what has not yet been restored: range, capacity, control, or the way you load one side against the other.
Performance & prevention
Beyond recovery, we help you move better and reduce re-injury risk through functional training for athletes — strength, control and movement quality tailored to your sport. Play football? See our football injury physiotherapy page.
Why Alter Physio
Physiotherapist Hide Kuwabara combines Western physiotherapy with a whole-body assessment and experience supporting athletes — tracing pain to its origin for fast relief, root-cause treatment and long-term prevention.
Physiotherapy and acupuncture
Acupuncture is available in the same practice and is sometimes used alongside physiotherapy where it is clinically appropriate — most often with sports injuries that have become persistent. It is a separate discipline with its own practitioner, not a substitute for rehabilitation. Read more about our acupuncture.
